by Clinton “Ce-Ce” Bell
As Resident Ambassador at Dismas House, I often reflect on the vision of Father Jack Hickey, our founder, and his inspiration from the story of the Penitent Thief. Like that story, my journey has been one of seeking acceptance and forgiveness after a past marked by poor decisions. Coming to Dismas House felt like asking, “Remember me?”—an invitation for this community to embody compassion and second chances.
The philosophy behind Father Hickey’s vision is not just about forgiveness; it’s about building a community where acceptance transforms lives. Sharing meals with my new Dismas family, forming connections with community members, and being part of a supportive environment have helped me regain hope and purpose.
Through Dismas, I have learned to embrace growth and opportunity. The acceptance I’ve found here has given me a solid foundation to rebuild my life. It is my hope to inspire others, both current and future residents, to find the same strength and belonging. Together, we carry forward the spirit of Dismas—healing, restoring, and building a brighter future.
Warmest wishes this holiday season,
